Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine
Studying Contemporary Chinese Pulse Diagnosis since 1998 with Leon Hammer, MD (psychiatrist, Chinese medical doctor and pulse diagnosis master), Karen completed her Ph.D. investigating the reliability of the method and co-authored Handbook of Contemporary Chinese Pulse Diagnosis. She has a special interest in providing detailed diagnoses and carefully integrating acupuncture and Chinese herbal prescriptions with Western medical interventions. Her combination of experience and skill allows her to help people manage complex and chronic conditions across a range of medical specialties.
As well as providing traditional acupuncture Lauren has an interest in working with skin related facial issues such as dermatitis, redness, dryness and lines related to ageing (facial rejuvenation). She is also certified in laser acupuncture which is suitable for the who are needle phobic, infants and children. In furthering her education Lauren also studied Shen-Hammer Chinese pulse diagnosis and has a special interest in womens health and digestive disorders.
Osteopathic manual medicine techniques and Bowen Technique
Karen gained many skills and much practical knowledge working in integrative rehabilitation medicine in the USA. She has extensive experience combining acupuncture with osteopathic manual medicine that includes Craniosacral Therapy and Muscle Energy Technique, and Bowen Technique giving her more skills to help people manage chronic/acute pain and musculoskeletal dysfunction that is unresponsive to more common rehabilitation procedures. Bowen Technique is a good alternative for those who are unable to tolerate acupuncture.
Remedial, Shiatsu and sports massage are provided by Kumiko Hayakawa and are an important and effective therapy. In particular Shiatsu supports other forms of treatment as the massage is applied according to meridian diagnosis. It is very effective for those who are unable to tolerate acupuncture. Kumiko is currently in Japan.
