Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is an osteopathic technique. It is a gentle form of healing that involves the "listening" to the rhythm of the cranial bones and sacrum as cerebrospinal fluid is circulated throughout the central nervous system. This is achieved via touch and allows access to the very deepest restrictions in the body.
During a session treatment follows the plan of facilitation put forward by the inner wisdom of the body. Healing therefore occurs at a rate directed by the intrinsic mechanisms of the individual. Treatments are very soothing and deeply relaxing. Craniosacral therapy can be used with acupuncture and is particularly helpful in the treatment of migraines and TMJ problems.
Taping Techniques
Taping is used as adjunct to manual therapy. It is particularly helpful in maintaining the alignment of structures when normal mechanisms have become so weak or traumatized that their function is no longer performed adequately.
Taping may be applied to preserve joint biomechanics so that strengthening of the area can be achieved without further injury to the joint. This is the case with patellofemoral syndrome where the kneecap is taped medially to minimize irritation at the patellofemoral joint while the inside quadriceps is being strengthened. Taping is also very effective in supporting loose or strained ligaments. For example, taping for lateral ankle sprain is very effective in decreasing pain as activity is increased. Taping is also commonly used with sports injuries as athletes return to competition. If appropriate, taping may be recommended as part of you treatment.
