A Session

On your first visit you will be given a simple but comprehensive form to fill in regarding your medical history and current health. You will be asked a number of questions about your presenting symptoms as well as your medical, family and birth history. An acupuncture or Chinese herbology consultation requires further questioning to gain in-depth knowledge of the energetic functioning of your body systems. It is important to get a complete picture of your current condition to be able to fully analyze your situation and treat you effectively. Follow up sessions will include fewer questions. Your practitioner will look briefly at your tongue as well as feel your radial pulse at both wrists. On the first session your pulse will be felt for ~ 45 minutes, and on subsequent visits for 5 - 30 minutes depending on the nature of your condition and the stage of treatment.

If you are having an acupuncture or oriental bodywork session, you will need to allow access to skin at certain parts of your body. This may be done by rearranging your clothing or we can supply you with a gown. You will be asked to lie for 15 - 35 minutes before the needles are removed. Depending on your condition you may have some hands on work done during the same session.

All acupuncture needles used at Lotus Healing Arts are sterile and single use only. Your practitioner will insert 4 or more needles at different points on your body. A well balanced session involves needles evenly spread around the body. The sensation of the needle, connecting with your 'qi', is a mild 'tooth achy' pain that usually recedes over 10 seconds.

Most people find acupuncture is deeply relaxing no matter what condition is being treated.
