History of Bowen Technique
The Bowen technique was developed in the 1950's by the late Thomas Ambrose Bowen in Geelong, Australia. Bowen is reported to have had no formal training in health care. Despite this he became a celebrated therapist and is said to have treated 13000 individual patients a year during the 1970's.
Bowen only taught his work to 6 apprentices. In 1974, Oswald Rentsch was invited to study with Bowen. He did this for several years before opening his own clinic with his wife Elaine. The Rentschs studied with Bowen until his death in 1982.
As Bowen kept no notes or explanations of his work, Ossie and Elaine were responsible for documenting the work, with Bowen correcting their notes. They are dedicated to keeping the work in its original form as practiced by Tom Bowen.
In 1986 Ossie and Elaine taught their first course of Bowen Technique. 12000 people have studied Bowen technique through the Bowen therapy Academy of Australia and its international associations since then. |
